The director of healthcare services in Iceland has criticised a recent report by the Icelandic Chamber of Commerce, stating it does not accurately reflect the current state of staffing in the country’s healthcare system, RÚV reports.

In an interview, the director argued that the report’s findings—suggesting severe shortages—are outdated and fail to account for recent improvements in recruitment and working conditions. While acknowledging ongoing challenges, the director stressed that progress has been made in addressing staffing gaps.

The Chamber of Commerce report had highlighted persistent difficulties in filling key healthcare roles, particularly in rural areas. The director did not dispute the historical context but maintained that the situation has evolved since the data was collected.
