Norwegian youth group removes video mocking US embassy bombing
A youth organisation linked to Norway’s socialist Red Party has deleted a video joking about the 1995 bombing of the US embassy in Oslo, after the party’s leadership condemned the post as inappropriate.
The video, published on social media by Rød Ungdom (Red Youth) on Friday evening, included a caption reading, “When he’s ‘lowkey’ ugly, but he tried to blow up the US embassy, so it’s okay.” It was removed from the platform at around 14:30 on Saturday, reports Norwegian news agency NTB.
Red Party secretary-general Reidar Strisland distanced the party from the post, telling Nettavisen that such humour was unacceptable. “The Red Party completely rejects all forms of violence and terrorism, and we expect Red Youth to do the same. This is not funny,” Strisland said.
The 1995 attack, carried out by far-left extremists, caused minor damage to the embassy building but no injuries. The incident remains a sensitive topic in Norwegian political discourse.
