Several traffic accidents were reported across Pirkanmaa on Friday afternoon as frosty roads made driving conditions difficult, Yle reported. A driver was trapped by the leg after a cabbed all-terrain vehicle left the road in Valkeakoski.
In Sastamala, two cars collided on Putajantie at about 4pm after one slid into the other on the slippery road. Both drivers were injured and taken for further treatment. One was seriously injured, while the other appeared to have less serious injuries, according to the fire service. Neither car carried passengers, and both vehicles were too damaged to drive.
Five cars were involved in a crash at the junction of Myllypuronkatu and Lintuviidankatu in Tampere’s Tesoma district shortly after 4pm. No one was seriously hurt. Each car carried only its driver, and paramedics checked them at the scene. One direction of the road was closed during rescue work. The cause of the crash was not known.
In Valkeakoski, at about 3pm, a cabbed all-terrain vehicle went off Sääksmäentie at a bend and into a ditch. Its driver’s lower leg was trapped until rescue workers freed them. Two ambulance units and a medical helicopter responded. Police are investigating.
Two cars also collided at a junction on Road 66 in Ruovesi at about 3:30pm. One car, travelling from the direction of the town centre, moved into the path of the other. Neither driver was seriously injured. One lane was closed while the scene was cleared.
A further two-vehicle crash was reported at about 4:30pm at the junction of Harmoistentie and Road 24 in Kuhmoinen. Traffic continued to move normally at the scene.
Road surface temperatures across Pirkanmaa were fluctuating around zero as evening approached. The fire service warned that driving conditions were worsening because of frost on the roads.
