Early Saturday morning, two abandoned houses in Savonlinna caught fire, prompting an emergency response from local authorities. The first fire was reported at 4:05 AM on Inarintie, where firefighters arrived to find the upper floor of a two-story structure fully engulfed in flames. The building was completely destroyed, and fire crews anticipate that extinguishing efforts will continue well into the day.

A nearby resident alerted the authorities about the fire. At 6:08 AM, a second alarm was raised regarding another abandoned house on Kalliomäentie. By the time firefighters arrived, the lower level of this building was also experiencing a full blaze. Efforts to control the fire are still ongoing, and officials expect these operations to last at least into the late morning.

Fortunately, there have been no reported injuries in connection with either fire, and the causes remain unknown at this time. Fire officials have confirmed that there is no risk of either fire spreading. The two properties are located approximately six kilometers apart.

Riku Sepän, the duty fire chief, noted that it is unusual for two abandoned houses to ignite in such close proximity to each other within a short timeframe. “It’s not a common occurrence; I haven’t seen this happen many times in my career,” he remarked.
