Ground tremors have impacted the Reykjanes Peninsula, prompting the management of the Blue Lagoon to aim for a reopening on Friday, November 29, following a temporary closure due to volcanic activity in the Sundhnúkur volcanic system. Visitors are advised to adhere strictly to government guidelines for safety.

The Blue Lagoon was closed earlier this week as eruptions began in the nearby volcanic region. An email alert sent to customers indicated the anticipated reopening date, while simultaneously reminding them to follow safety instructions to ensure a pleasant experience at the facility. The situation regarding parking availability is under review, as lava has covered part of the lagoon’s parking area.

The local police chief expressed skepticism about the immediate reopening of the Blue Lagoon, highlighting that approximately 350 parking spots were lost to the lava flow. He noted that assessing the situation would take some time and the authorities are still responding to the current events.

The Blue Lagoon’s website states that during the closure, management will evaluate their emergency response plans and work on improving local infrastructure. They committed to following official recommendations closely, collaborating with experts and authorities to ensure the safety of both staff and guests, and learning from the current events to utilize new knowledge constructively.
