The investigation into a drowning incident that occurred at Kuusijärvi in Vantaa has been completed by local authorities. The investigation has identified the parents of the children involved as potential suspects, facing charges of neglect, causing death, and causing bodily harm. Witnesses at the scene, including lifeguards and bystanders, are not believed to have committed any offenses.

During the tragic event, a 4-year-old girl and her 7-year-old brother were discovered unresponsive in the water. Lifeguards and two individuals trained in first aid attempted to revive them. Unfortunately, the 7-year-old boy later died, while his sister sustained serious injuries. Authorities noted that neglect implies a failure by those responsible for the children’s care to supervise them adequately, thereby placing their safety and health at risk.

Parents of the children have provided information during the investigation regarding the prior arrangements made for monitoring their kids at the beach. The police have stated that the sequence of events has been thoroughly assessed using footage from surveillance cameras at the location and by interviewing individuals present at the time.

The health status of the injured 4-year-old remains confidential. The authorities plan to update the public as the case has drawn significant attention and sparked discussions concerning the supervision of children who cannot swim. The investigation is now concluded, and the evaluation of the parents’ actions will be handed over to prosecutors.
