Authorities in Southeast Finland are investigating the death of a resident at a care facility in Lappeenranta as both an assault and an incident of negligent manslaughter. The incident involves a male resident born in the 1940s who fell after being pushed by another man born in the 1950s. The victim succumbed to injuries sustained from the fall in November.

Investigating officer, Crime Commissioner Timo Valle, confirmed that the cause of death was indeed linked to the injuries resulting from the fall. Valle has not disclosed whether the man from the 1950s was legally sane at the time of the incident.

In October, the South Karelia welfare district reported that a serious altercation took place between two residents at the Lehmuskoti care facility in Lappeenranta. This incident resulted in the likely death of one resident. The individual who was injured was transferred to the South Karelia Central Hospital for treatment and passed away just over three weeks later.

Lehmuskoti, managed by the welfare district, provides short-term care and rehabilitation services for clients in need, as well as respite care for their caregivers. Further updates on this case will follow as the investigation continues.
