Heavy snowfall to blanket southern Finland as storm intensifies
Heavy snowfall has arrived in the southern regions of Finland, according to meteorologist Elias Paakkanen. The snowfall is expected to intensify and spread throughout the area as the day progresses. By Wednesday, the precipitation will move from Southern Finland towards Central Finland, continuing its path northward into Northern Finland by Thursday.
The heaviest snow accumulation is anticipated in the southern and central parts of the country, where snow levels could reach between 10 to 30 centimeters. However, by Wednesday evening and into Thursday, precipitation may transition to rain along the southern coast and in the southeast.
In the northern regions, around 5 centimeters of snow is predicted as the weather front approaches. Initially, driving conditions in Southern Finland will be extremely poor, and as the weather system advances, conditions will deteriorate across other parts of the country as well. There may be some improvement in the situation on Thursday in the Helsinki metropolitan area, although western Finland is expected to experience continued severe conditions.
Paakkanen emphasizes that this is a significant snowstorm, with potentially very strong winds. Coastal regions are warned of storm conditions, and inland areas may also experience gusty winds. The situation is being monitored closely as the winter storm unfolds.
