Two friends embark on ambitious journey for one million Eurobonus points across Europe and beyond
In a quest for one million Eurobonus points, two friends, Ole Martin Lund Johansen, 24, and Brede Tofte, 25, are embarking on an ambitious travel itinerary, flying with various airlines over the next few months. Their route includes stops in major cities like Amsterdam, London, Paris, and Nairobi, before continuing on to their final destinations in Asia and the United States.
The pair aims to reach this impressive point total by flying with 15 different airlines that are part of the SkyTeam alliance, which includes KLM, Air France, and Delta. This initiative is a part of SAS’s millionaire campaign, designed to reward frequent flyers. However, the campaign has drawn criticism from environmental organizations, which argue that promoting such extensive travel is counterproductive in light of climate change.
Despite the growing scrutiny, Johansen and Tofte remain undeterred. After completing seven flights over a week, they acknowledge the physical toll of their intensive travel schedule but view it as an investment for future perks. Their plan includes returning to work in Norway after this segment before continuing their journey in December, ultimately celebrating New Year’s in Tokyo.
Their current expenditures amount to around 34,000 NOK (approximately $3,500), in addition to utilizing 78,000 bonus points. Even as they navigate their travels, they remain aware of the environmental implications of flying. Yet, they underscore the significant benefits of the reward points, contemplating how they can utilize these for future travel opportunities.
SAS’s press spokesperson noted that interest in the campaign has spiked, though they anticipate only a small number of participants will commit to such rigorous travel.
