In a small town in Finland, water supply has been interrupted for a group of rental townhouses due to unpaid bills by the owning company, Suomi Vuokraa Oy. Additionally, residents are facing heating issues as the owner has not procured the necessary firewood owing to financial difficulties. Esko Asikainen, a resident of the complex for seven years, noted that there are five occupied townhouses housing a total of 11 tenants, with one building vacant for nearly two years.
Asikainen expressed frustration over the decline in living conditions since the current owner purchased the properties a few years ago. He and his wife are preparing to move to a new apartment and believe that other residents are also planning to leave. The abrupt cessation of heating caught him off guard, and he mentioned that the owner has attempted to borrow money from the tenants to cover heating expenses.
The company’s CEO, Marcel Angelosanto, acknowledged the ongoing struggles, citing rising living costs, particularly for water and heating, and a lack of sufficient renters to meet financial obligations. He revealed that not all tenants have paid their rent in full, exacerbating the financial situation of the housing company.
Residents have communicated their intentions to vacate, while the fate of the soon-to-be vacant residences remains uncertain. The local municipality is aware of the issues, and inquiries about available municipal rental properties have begun to emerge. Local officials described the situation as unfortunate and regrettable.
