A salon owner in Joensuu, Reetta Miettinen, learned the hard way that delivery companies cannot always be fully trusted, especially when it comes to important documents. A local postal delivery service, Pisa Jakelu, which started operations alongside the national postal service last April, mistakenly distributed mail to an unused mailbox for over six months. Instead of reaching the businesses at the Rantakylä shopping center, some mail ended up in a box attached to a nearby grocery store.

The issue came to light accidentally when a grocery store employee noticed the delivery person leaving mail in a non-operational box. Miettinen later discovered that several important bills, including insurance invoices, had gone missing, with some unpaid for months. She was contacted by the billing company inquiring about overdue payments, which she had never received.

Diving deeper, Miettinen uncovered that her insurance had been canceled and rent was overdue. She expressed concerns over potential damages they could not claim if issues such as water leaks occurred. Although some of her mail reached the appropriate boxes through a different delivery service, the mishap caused significant problems, resulting in unexpected expenses exceeding €1,000.

Approximately two months ago, a representative from Pisa Jakelu visited Miettinen’s salon with a large stack of overdue letters—some containing debt collection notices. In total, 45 letters had not arrived on time. While complaints about postal services are relatively uncommon, Miettinen now contemplates whether the situation has affected her credit standing, as she has incurred significant late fees.

Pisa Jakelu confirmed the mistake and has pledged to reimburse Miettinen for the costs incurred. Moving forward, she intends to handle most communications electronically, distrusting traditional mail delivery.
