Althing’s parliamentary work is expected to conclude today as the nation prepares for legislative elections on November 30. An evening program on RÚV will feature party leaders in the southwestern constituency who will discuss key issues affecting voters in the area.

In a farewell gathering this morning, Birgir Ármannsson, the President of Althing, bid farewell to party leaders, celebrating his long tenure since 2003. He has announced that he will not seek reelection as a candidate for the Independence Party.

The parliamentary session has officially begun, with a total of twelve items on the agenda, including the government’s budget proposal. Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir, leader of the Left-Green Movement, will address her policies and party’s focus later tonight.

The session will also address other significant proposals, including amendments to immigration laws and a one-time payment for pensioners. In a decision made last month, party leaders agreed to wrap up the legislative work this month ahead of the upcoming elections.

In recent news, the Left-Green Movement announced their campaign priorities centered on housing, healthcare, and environmental protection. On a lighter note, voters recently participated in an unconventional polling event in shorts on Tenerife, reflecting the lively political climate.

As the election date draws nearer, updates will continue to cover the campaign developments and political news surrounding the legislative elections. With just twelve days until citizens head to the polls, the atmosphere is charged with anticipation and strategic positioning from all parties involved.
