A Cypriot cargo ship arrived at the dock in Kaskinen on Sunday afternoon around 3:30 PM after waiting for a pilot, which was delayed due to strong winds. While navigating through rough seas near Kaskinen, approximately 39 cubic meters of timber fell overboard from the vessel. Authorities did not take action in response to the incident, as local maritime rescue officials stated that such occurrences are not uncommon in heavy winds.
The chief of the Western Finland Coast Guard’s rescue operations noted, “It is entirely normal for timber loads to be lost overboard in strong winds. Generally, the cargo floats ashore, and that is likely to happen this time as well.” He also acknowledged that while this situation could pose a risk to recreational boaters in the area, the current windy conditions would likely cause the cargo to drift ashore relatively quickly, and there are not many small boats on the water at the moment.
