Only the doctor who performed a circumcision on a boy remains under investigation in a high-profile case in Uppsala, SVT reports. Prosecutors have dropped suspicions against the other seven people initially suspected of offences.
Police raided premises in the Sala backe district of Uppsala on Sunday, October 25, and arrested the doctor while he was performing the circumcision. He is suspected of assault but has been released. According to his lawyer, he has a Swedish medical licence and permission from IVO to perform circumcisions. He denies wrongdoing.
Prosecutor Hanna Göthberg said the investigation is still at an early stage and that further investigative steps will be taken. The assault classification will also be reviewed as the investigation continues. Göthberg did not say when a decision on possible charges might be made.
