A woman in her twenties who reported doctor Arne Bye to health authorities recounted her long-awaited testimony in court about an incident that occurred during a medical appointment in 2006. She expressed frustration that action regarding her claims is happening only now, 18 years later.

Bye faces allegations of sexual assault involving 87 patients while practicing medicine in Frosta, in addition to misusing his position to engage in sexual acts with 94 women. He has admitted guilt for three counts of rape and 35 instances of abuse of his position.

During her testimony, the woman noted that Bye was present in the courtroom, seemingly disengaged as he focused on his computer rather than acknowledging her. Afterward, she described feeling a sense of relief, stating that a weight had been lifted from her shoulders.

The former community physician has been accused of various sexual offenses, including inappropriate touching during gynecological examinations, actions defined under the law as rape because the women were unable to consent. He denies some of the allegations and particularly disputes the claim that he attempted to stimulate one of his patients.

The woman stated that she felt shame for not having left during her appointment and for not trusting her instincts. She characterized Bye as well-liked and noted the hesitation among women in the community to report him due to his previous reputation as a good doctor.

Despite the challenges and the community’s backlash against reporting him, she felt it was necessary to inform the authorities. After learning about additional misconduct despite her report, she submitted another notice to the authorities. She emphasized the importance of believing survivors and highlighted that these are not mere rumors, but serious allegations of abuse. The trial for Bye is set to take place from November through February.
