In the wake of Donald Trump’s recent electoral victory, several world leaders have reached out to the incoming U.S. president. On Monday, Trump spoke with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and Finland’s President Alexander Stubb. He had also received congratulations from Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Fredriksen.

The Swedish government has expressed that it is well-prepared for the Trump administration and various scenarios that may emerge. Although Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has yet to communicate with Trump, he is getting ready for that anticipated conversation. “We are planning both the timing and the topics of our discussion. Some countries are eager to have a conversation quickly, but I believe the content is what matters,” Kristersson stated.

The Prime Minister expressed his intent to discuss trade policy, support for Ukraine, North Korea, and defense industry issues when he eventually speaks with Trump. Meanwhile, Sweden’s Social Democrats and the Green Party have called for an invitation to a meeting regarding Trump ahead of a parliamentary debate. Leaders Magdalena Andersson and Daniel Helldén have voiced concerns about the implications of the U.S. leadership change for security policy, NATO, and Ukraine.

However, Kristersson has dismissed the request for specific discussions about Trump, underscoring the existing forums for addressing such matters: “I don’t understand their point. We gather the foreign affairs committee whenever significant international topics arise; party leaders are present, so I really don’t see the need for this,” he remarked.
