Arne Bye began his testimony in the Trøndelag District Court on Wednesday, starting with an overview of female anatomy. He explained his use of what he refers to as alternative objects during medical examinations, including parts of an asthma inhaler and a deodorant-like item, which he claimed to have used to detect cervical cancer. “I won’t call it genius, but I think it was a clever idea,” Bye remarked.

Bye, a former municipal chief physician and general practitioner, faces charges of rape against 87 female patients in Frosta. He is also accused of abusing his position for sexual encounters with 94 patients. Bye has admitted guilt for three counts of rape and 35 incidents of abuse of his position. This serious and extensive case has significantly impacted the small local community.

The court session has elicited mixed reactions from the victims present. One commented on the absurdity of Bye’s statements, expressing a mix of shock and laughter, while another emphasized that they are not the ones portrayed negatively in this situation.

Bye has been accused of 87 rapes, involving 94 victims aged between 14 and 67 years old. Some older victims have noted that generational differences played a key role in bringing the allegations to light, as they had previously defended Bye.

In anticipation of critical questioning for Bye in court, lawyer Tove Røddesnes stated that her clients are prepared for the developments. She expressed no surprise at Bye’s explanations, indicating that they were not previously disclosed during interrogations, and described him as a thorough and meticulous individual.
