A 46-year-old man from Hollola has been sentenced to a suspended prison term for serious drug offenses by the Päijät-Häme District Court. The ruling, delivered on October 16, imposes a sentence of one year and five months. In addition, the man is required to pay an 80-euro victim surcharge to the state.
According to the court, the defendant cultivated cannabis in two grow sites located in his bedroom and basement. He also dried cannabis plants in his garage. Alongside the cultivation and processing of the drugs, the defendant was found to be in illegal possession of narcotics.
During the court proceedings, the accused denied intending to distribute the drugs, claiming that all the cannabis was meant solely for personal use. However, based on the scale of cultivation, professional methods employed, and the manner in which the drugs were packaged, the court deemed that the cultivation occurred with the intention to distribute.
The Hollola man has prior convictions as well. In 2021, he received a suspended sentence for drug offenses, drug use offenses, and minor firearm offenses. The probation period for his current sentence is set to end on October 15, 2027. This sentence has been finalized and is now legally binding.
