Finnish Centre Party Member of the European Parliament Katri Kulmuni will not stand in the spring 2027 parliamentary elections, Yle reports, citing Helsingin Sanomat.

Kulmuni, who is from Tornio in northern Finland, said she wants to continue working in the European Parliament rather than return to Finland’s Parliament.

She said the European Parliament will soon address many issues related to the north, where she can use her knowledge of the region.

Kulmuni received 8,400 votes in the previous parliamentary elections, making her the Centre Party’s most popular candidate in the Lapland electoral district.

Another Lapland-based MP, Kaisa Juuso of the Finns Party, will also not seek re-election in the next parliamentary elections.
