Young individuals under the age of 31 are increasingly launching e-commerce companies, according to data from Tillväxtanalys. The number of such startups rose from 940 in 2018 to 2,466 in 2023, representing a 162% increase.

Ung Företagsamhet, a Swedish organization promoting entrepreneurship among youth, has noted a surge in inquiries about dropshipping among high school students. Linda Östensson from the organization stated that interest began to rise last year, with mentions of dropshipping becoming more common in classrooms. She emphasized that dropshipping itself is not inherently problematic, as it has pros and cons, but students need to be aware of the associated risks. Many products may lack quality, and tracing the supply chain can prove difficult.

Dropshipping is a business model where an online retailer neither manufactures products nor maintains inventory. Instead, items are shipped directly to customers from suppliers outside of Europe, often from China. While this business model is legal, it has attracted some unscrupulous operators. Complaints about late deliveries, missing items, or products not matching their descriptions are often reported against such retailers.

The trend of reporting dropshipping companies is on the rise, with many consumers filing complaints. As dropshipping continues to grow as a business model among young entrepreneurs, the importance of consumer awareness and due diligence remains critical.
