The water turbine at Strond, which was restarted a week ago following major maintenance, is now out of service again due to unknown reasons, according to SEV.
During testing, the turbine experienced a mechanical failure that requires further investigation.
As a result, the turbine will be sent to Andritz Jevnaker in Norway for inspection and repairs. There will be no electricity generation from water at Strond for the remainder of the year.
The turbine had only operated for a day and a half before the damage occurred, stated Heri Mortensen, head of production at SEV. He added that it is currently unclear how long the inspection and repair work will take.
There is a substantial amount of water in the reservoir at Strandardali, and with SEV not utilizing any water, it is now flowing out of the reservoir.
