The leader of the Social Democratic Alliance has expressed regret over private messages that were made public regarding a potential voter’s opinion of former mayor Dag B. Eggertsson. Kristrún Frostadóttir stated that it’s unfortunate the communication, which included encouragement to vote for the party while crossing out Eggertsson’s name if the voter disagreed, became public over the weekend.

Frostadóttir acknowledged that personal communications might get exposed in such a manner but emphasized the focus should remain on the party’s collective goals rather than individual candidates. She affirmed her commitment to unifying the party and the nation around broader societal changes.

When questioned about similar messages being sent to other possible voters, Frostadóttir said such interactions are common in Icelandic politics, highlighting ongoing communications with individuals nationwide. She reiterated that the approach aims to ensure voters feel comfortable with their choices, even if it may not seem particularly engaging.

Regarding the prospect of Eggertsson serving as a minister if the Social Democratic Alliance forms the government after the elections, Frostadóttir felt it premature to discuss potential ministerial appointments, given that the party is unsure if it will gain the mandate to enter government. She noted that party leaders typically have priority for ministerial roles but emphasized the need to focus on election outcomes first.
