President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine is arriving in Iceland today as part of the Nordic Council’s annual assembly, which runs from today until Thursday. He will participate in the fourth leaders’ summit between the Nordic countries and Ukraine, where he is set to engage in discussions with Icelandic Prime Minister Bjarni Benediktsson and Speaker of the Parliament, Höll Tómasdóttir.

The assembly will take place at the Althing, the national parliament of Iceland, and the City Hall of Reykjavik. A total of 87 members of the Nordic Council, along with the Prime Ministers, Foreign Ministers, and other parliamentarians from the Nordic nations, will gather for this event, accompanied by various guests.

In preparation for the summit, extensive road closures will be implemented in downtown Reykjavik, with significant security measures in place. All vehicular and pedestrian traffic will be prohibited in the areas under closure during the assembly proceedings. The affected zones will remain sealed off until Wednesday.

Specific streets to be closed include Vonarstræti between Lækjargötu and Suðurgötu, Templarasund, and Kirkjustræti from Pósthússtræti, as well as Tjarnargata between Vonarstræti and Kirkjustræti. The closures will take effect at 8:00 AM and will be lifted at 4:00 PM on Wednesday. For more details regarding the road closures associated with the Nordic Council assembly, residents can refer to the Reykjavik municipality website.
