Hunter accidentally shoots two Shetland ponies in Sweden
Aileen Köpper heard gunshots on Friday evening that injured her horses, but it wasn’t until she received a call from a hunter that she realized her Shetland ponies had been shot. One horse was found with a leg injury in the pasture, while the other was discovered with a stomach wound nearby. Both were severely injured and had to be euthanized on-site. “It was horrific. The little mare lying here had her leg positioned unnaturally. It was so terrible that it’s difficult to comprehend,” she stated.
The hunter claimed he was targeting wild boar, but Köpper believes this does not justify the shooting. “He expressed his regret, and it was horrifying. I remember something being said about wild boar being behind the horse, but even if that were the case, you wouldn’t shoot. The movement patterns of wild boar and horses are completely different. It was a starry night, not foggy; it was well-lit here,” she added.
Köpper mentioned that there were people in the stable near the pasture. Her daughter had been there shortly before the shooting to feed the animals. However, at the moment the shots were fired, no one was actually in the pasture. “It feels so unreal. It’s like a nightmare,” she expressed.
