The ongoing debate regarding the opposition’s motion for a vote of no confidence against Ingilín D. Strøm, the Minister of Environment, suggests that only the opposition is backing the proposal so far.

The Lagting, the national parliament, discussed the motion before noon today. The crux of the issue is whether Ingilín D. Strøm has knowingly or through gross negligence misled the parliament.

The motion is likely to fail as the collective opposition plans to vote in favor of the no-confidence motion, although indications suggest that none from the governing coalition will support it.

For a no-confidence motion to pass, it requires a majority. The governing coalition holds 18 votes, while the opposition has 15. Consequently, at least two members from the coalition would need to break ranks for the motion to be accepted. So far, no members of the governing coalition have expressed a willingness to vote in favor.

Sólvit Nolsøe from the Progress Party stated that the interpretation currently causing controversy has been taken out of context, and therefore, they will not support the motion.

Furthermore, the leadership and main board of Tjóðveldi, a political party, announced in a press release that they agree with the conclusion of the Ministerial Committee to appoint an investigator to examine the situation surrounding the Environment Minister.

Høgni Hoydal, also a member of the government, reiterated this support in the parliament shortly afterward. As it stands, it appears that the governing coalition will not endorse the no-confidence motion.
