There has been an unusual increase in geothermal activity at the Geysir area in Haukadal since Saturday, causing surprise among both experts and locals. Despite the heightened activity, the Meteorological Office reports that there are no clear explanations available, as seismic, GPS, and satellite monitoring systems show no significant changes that could clarify the phenomenon.

A post from the Meteorological Office indicates that an official from the Environmental Agency has confirmed that many geysers in the area are exhibiting much more vigorous activity than usual. Strokkur, in particular, has been notably active, with eruptions occurring more frequently and reaching greater heights and force than what is typical. Currently, Strokkur can spray water up to 30 meters high. The eruptions have been powerful enough to send rocks and other materials flying.

Today, specialists from the Environmental Agency, the Meteorological Office, and the Department of Civil Protection assessed the situation at the Geysir area. They will continue to monitor developments and attempt to determine the causes of these changes. Tourists are advised to exercise caution around the geysers and maintain a safe distance for their own safety.
