Left Party leader condemns antisemitism amid Kristofer Lundberg’s controversial post in Sweden
The Left Party of Orust published a Facebook post on Saturday with the message, “How likely is it that the Hamas attacks on October 7 went unnoticed? I believe Israel allowed it to happen, sacrificing its festival-goers and kibbutz families to eliminate Gaza.” The post continued, “In this context, I am always on the side of the Palestinians. And with that, I am also on Kristofer Lundberg’s side.”
Kristofer Lundberg, the chairman of the party’s local branch in Angered, faces expulsion for expressing support for the Palestinian group PFLP, classified as a terrorist organization. The local party branch later stated that the content of the post does not represent their views and is unacceptable. They announced plans to clarify their social media protocols to prevent a recurrence.
Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar stated that antisemitism has no place in the party. While she has not commented on the specific post, party secretary Maria Forsberg addressed the issue, confirming that the Orust branch contacted them about the post being published in error. “We agree that the post is completely unacceptable. The branch removed it within hours of publication and will now review its procedures to ensure nothing similar occurs again,” Forsberg added.
The Left Party has faced significant scrutiny this fall, with several members accused of antisemitism. Two members have left the party after disseminating antisemitic claims. Recently, it was also revealed that a PFLP representative attended the Angered local branch’s annual meeting earlier this year. In response to antisemitic remarks and support for terrorist organizations, the Jewish Central Council decided to ban the Left Party from its memorial events.
