A citizen initiative to tighten the funding and responsibilities of the Finnish broadcasting company, Yleisradio, is progressing to Parliament. This afternoon, the initiative surpassed the required threshold of 50,000 signatures, as reported on the Kansalaisaloite.fi website.

Entitled “Yle in Check Now!”, the initiative demands that Yleisradio participate in stricter financial adjustments and calls for a more precise definition of its statutory duties to align with the citizens’ wishes and societal needs. According to the citizen initiative, Yleisradio, funded by taxpayer money, must adapt to the realities of public finances.
