A homicide in Kuopio occurred at a private residence, where the suspect allegedly intruded without permission, according to the Eastern Finland Police. The man is suspected of killing a partner of the same age at the private residence last Saturday around 8 PM.

According to police, the suspect entered the home of unsuspecting individuals in Nilsiä, Kuopio. Authorities believe he inflicted injuries on the victim using a firearm; however, details about the method or circumstances of the crime remain undisclosed for investigative reasons. After the incident, the suspect left the scene but was apprehended about an hour later.

The 70-year-old man is being investigated on probable grounds for manslaughter, aggravated violation of domestic peace, and preparation for a serious crime against life or health. He was remanded in custody by the district court yesterday.

Investigations continue, including interviews and inquiries into the motive for the crime. Authorities indicate that the victim and the suspect were in a relationship. The alleged murder reportedly involved a regulated firearm that the suspect had obtained unlawfully, as he did not possess a valid gun permit.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect had also planned to harm police officers with a firearm. The events surrounding his arrest are now being treated as preparation for a serious crime. No danger was posed to bystanders during the arrest.

The police have stated that updates on the overall case will be provided following the conclusion of the preliminary investigation, before it moves to the prosecution phase, with a deadline for filing charges set for January 24, 2025.

Previous incidents of violence also underline the suspect’s background, as he was convicted last year for three assaults and minor property damage, resulting in a fine of €650. These offenses took place in October 2022, during which the suspect assaulted three individuals at a private residence.
