Man vandalizes apartment in Kerava, Finland, causing €20,000 in damages
Last Sunday, an extraordinary incident unfolded in Kerava, Finland, described by police as highly unusual. The property manager of an apartment complex reported a scene of total destruction to the police at 9:00 a.m. Noise from one of the units was reportedly extremely loud, and furniture was thrown from the balcony to the ground.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that a man in his thirties had completely vandalized the apartment. Windows, balcony glass, structural components, doors, and appliances were all damaged. The walls bore holes, and electrical wires had been torn out. Crime Scene Unit Officer Anssi Murto from the East Uusimaa Police described the apartment as looking like “the aftermath of a bomb.”
Witnesses suggest a party might have taken place, albeit one hosted solely by the man in the apartment, who was blaring “very heavy” music at full volume. The destruction and noise had been ongoing for about 24 hours. Murto commented, “I must say, the neighbors have been remarkably patient to not report this earlier.”
The estimated cost of the damages amounts to around €20,000. The man resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody and transported to the Hyvinkää police station. He admitted to his actions but the motive behind the destruction remained unclear, with police reports not confirming whether he was under the influence of substances.
The suspect is believed to be guilty of severe damage to property and resisting a public officer. A representative of the housing company told police that a full renovation of the damaged apartment would likely cost around €20,000, noting the extensive destruction might exceed that estimate.
