Finnish government officials praise approval of deportation law, while opposition voices concerns over rule of law
Finnish Defence Minister and National Coalition Party MP, Antti Häkkänen, has thanked all representatives who voted in favor of the deportation law, stating that Finland has sent a strong and determined message. Häkkänen asserts that Finland will resist any attempts to destabilise the country, emphasizing that security is a common concern that transcends party lines. He encourages maintaining this tradition in the future.
Anna-Kaisa Ikonen, Minister of Local Government and Regional Administration, describes the approval of the deportation law as an important decision for national security. Meanwhile, Minister of Employment, Arto Satonen, praises the fact that a 5/6 majority in the parliament supported the approval and urgent enactment of the border law.
SDP MP Nasima Razmyar expresses her disappointment with the result of the deportation law’s vote. She believes the outcome is saddening from the perspective of the rule of law and constitutional legality. Despite the conclusion of the legislative process, Razmyar insists that discussions about Finnish lawmaking, the state of the rule of law, and respect for the constitution must continue.
