Finnish Parliament approves controversial “turnaround law” to combat instrumentalized immigration
The Finnish Parliament has approved the so-called “turnaround law” aimed at combating instrumentalized immigration. This exceptional law had to be enacted in a difficult constitutional amendment process. Initially, the law was declared urgent by a vote of 167-31, and subsequently, it was approved with the same margin.
Those who voted against declaring the law urgent and approving it included Eva Biaudet from the Swedish People’s Party, Timo Harakka, Nasima Razmyar, Matias Mäkynen, Elisa Gebhard, Krista Kiuru, and Johan Kvarnström from the Social Democratic Party, as well as all representatives from the Green and Left parties. The rest of the representatives voted in favor of declaring the law urgent and approving it.
Annika Saarikko from the Centre Party was absent from the vote, having given birth on Thursday. There were no abstentions.
