Nordea faces customer exodus amid ongoing operational disruptions in Finland
Nordea has faced operational disruptions for several weeks, significantly impacting customer experiences. Espoo resident Minnamari Dahlberg has decided to change banks due to these technical issues, citing concerns over the bank’s cybersecurity. “The technical problems are the last straw. Trust is beginning to wane. If the system can be hacked, it’s serious,” she noted.
Many customers are encountering difficulties with basic services due to ongoing issues at Nordea, which have made it hard to log in and manage financial tasks. Following an inquiry by Yle into customers’ intentions to switch banks amid these disruptions, numerous respondents expressed anxiety regarding Nordea’s reliability.
Nordea’s Finland manager Jani Eloranta acknowledged the challenges faced by customers, extending apologies while hoping for continued trust despite these issues. He mentioned that there have been no visible signs of a mass exodus of customers from Nordea as of yet.
Meanwhile, competitors are seeing an influx of new clients. Danske Bank has reported a noticeable increase in customers over the past weeks, with some drawn from Nordea and others looking to establish second accounts as a precaution against future problems.
OP Group has also noted a slight rise in inquiries from potential new clients, attributing such interest to various personal circumstances.
While some customers expressed understanding of Nordea’s technical difficulties—possibly due to external factors—others voiced frustration over incomplete account access, especially during vital financial periods. Many are contemplating bank changes, driven by the desire for greater stability and reliability.
