Search and rescue operation underway in Jökulsá á Dal following accident in Stuðlagil

A search and rescue operation is underway in Jökulsá á Dal following reports of an accident in Stuðlagil. At approximately 3 PM today, the Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched in response to an alert that an individual was seen floating in the river but subsequently disappeared from view.

Emergency responders, including rescue teams and police, are actively engaged in the operation. According to police reports, the individual reportedly fell into the river at Stuðlagil. The Coast Guard helicopter was mobilized urgently to address the situation, and a second helicopter was launched with divers from the Capital Area Fire Department.

Jón Þór Víglundsson, a spokesperson for the national rescue organization Landsbjörg, confirmed that two local rescue teams, Hérað and Jökull, were immediately sent to the scene as they were the closest units available. Additional teams have also been deployed to assist with the search, including drone operators to enhance the search efforts.

The situation remains fluid, and updates on the incident are expected as the rescue operation continues.
