Lapland welfare area initiates co-determination procedures amid budget concerns

Wednesday 9th October 2024 on 15:38 in Finland

The Lapland welfare area’s regional council has decided to initiate co-determination procedures affecting all personnel, essentially launching change negotiations. The council announced that as part of next year’s budget, it will explore organizational streamlining and potential reductions in management and supervisory roles. These negotiations are being initiated as a precaution in case the budget includes measures that might impact employees’ positions.

However, the regional council emphasizes that the primary goal of the welfare area is not to implement layoffs, part-time employment, furloughs, or significant reductions in the terms of employment. As it stands, the deficit forecast for the Lapland welfare area this year is nearly 90 million euros. Further updates on this matter will follow.
