The Danish government plans to introduce a new law and amend three existing Danish laws that currently apply in the Faroe Islands, as outlined in the legislative agenda for this parliamentary year.
The new legislation focuses on regulations for the transfer of money between countries. The rules established by the European Parliament in 2023 regarding such monetary transfers are intended to be applicable in the Faroe Islands as well. This law aims to ensure that money transfers between the Faroe Islands and Denmark are not hindered, given that the Faroe Islands lack the same regulatory framework as Denmark for managing these transactions.
Additionally, the proposed legislation includes the transfer of the Investment Fund to the Faroe Islands.
Regarding regulatory oversight, changes will be made to the law governing credit and investment companies to align with EU regulations concerning capital requirements, which will be implemented in the Faroe Islands. The objective is to strengthen financial stability in the region and ensure smooth interactions within the national community.
Moreover, the immigration law will be revised to allow the Faroe Islands and Greenland to issue long-term residence permits and charge fees for the issuance of residence and work permits.
Two reports are also scheduled for discussion. The Minister for the Prime Minister’s Office will provide an update on the status of the national community, while the Minister for Foreign Affairs will present a report on Arctic matters.
