The Varsinais-Suomi District Court has issued an interim ruling in a case involving a man in his twenties accused of murdering a man in his thirties. The incident occurred last October in a private residence on Vanha Hämeentie in Turku. According to a witness present at the scene, a dispute arose between the defendant and the victim, during which the defendant brandished a folding knife. The prosecutor alleges that the defendant stabbed the victim multiple times in various parts of his body.

A female bystander attempted to intervene but was also reportedly injured when the defendant struck her with the knife. The prosecutor claims that the defendant attacked this intervening individual three times, causing her injuries, for which he is charged with aggravated assault. Both the woman and the victim managed to leave the residence to seek help; however, the victim later succumbed to his injuries in the hospital despite extensive medical treatment.

The police had previously reported that the victim died in the hospital. The district court has ordered a psychiatric evaluation for the accused, citing the lack of a clear motive for the act and the defendant’s statements regarding his mental health. The defendant has also requested access to psychiatric evaluations.

Additionally, the man has been charged with attempted aggravated assault for an incident that occurred just weeks before the fatal stabbing, in which he allegedly swung a knife at a security guard in Salo. This security guard had removed the man from a restaurant shortly before the attack. According to the prosecutor, the security guard successfully avoided the blows, even managing to defend himself by kicking and using pepper spray. The accused is also charged with possession of an object suitable for infliction of harm.
