Deep low to bring storm-force winds to southwest Iceland
A deep low-pressure system is expected to affect Iceland around midday on Thursday, October 29, mbl.is reports, citing meteorologist Einar Sveinbjörnsson.
The system has appeared in long-range forecasts in recent days and is now expected to arrive earlier than first predicted. Earlier forecasts had its fronts crossing Iceland overnight into Friday.
The low will pass closer to Greenland than Iceland, which is expected to limit its impact. Winds ahead of the fronts could become very strong around midday Wednesday, particularly in southwest Iceland, where they are likely to reach storm force for a relatively short time.
Winds elsewhere are not expected to be as strong because the low will remain farther away. Sveinbjörnsson said it was fortunate the system was not expected to pass closer to Iceland or be as deep as forecasts suggested last week.
