A strong low-pressure system, bringing rain and wind, is set to arrive in Finland from the Atlantic by Wednesday morning. In the northern regions, several centimeters of snow may fall on Wednesday. “The rest of the week appears unstable with rain in the forecast,” says Yle meteorologist Henriikka Heikinoja.

Winds will create high waves, potentially reaching storm-level conditions along the coast on Wednesday. Inland, winds could become strong in gusts.

Rain will predominantly affect the western parts of the country on Wednesday. By evening and into Thursday morning, rain will spread east and north. In Lapland, some of the precipitation might fall as snow, with several centimeters expected in Northern Lapland.

Thursday is predicted to be the wettest day of the week, according to Heikinoja. Additionally, the winds will be particularly gusty. The Finnish Meteorological Institute warns that gusts may reach dangerously strong levels in eastern Finland.

The windy weather will continue into Friday, although the rain will decrease and become more sporadic. Temperatures are expected to rise towards the end of the week, but the forecasts remain uncertain.

In southern Finland, temperatures could approach 15 degrees Celsius. In the north, nights will also warm up, with daytime temperatures expected to rise significantly above freezing.
