Controversy arises over Jimmie Åkesson’s wedding guest linked to Comanches gang in Sweden
A recent controversy has emerged surrounding Jimmie Åkesson, the leader of the Sweden Democrats, after it was revealed that a guest at his wedding has ties to the criminal motorcycle gang Comanches. Åkesson claims he only has a superficial acquaintance with this individual, who was invited as the partner of group leader Mattias Karlsson’s ex-wife. However, reports indicate that this man has been invited to Åkesson’s private events over several years, including a prominent party organized by Åkesson in 2018, described by sources as a “hierarchy party” for select guests approved by Åkesson.
While Åkesson maintains he and his wife were unaware of the guest’s criminal background, several high-ranking figures within the Sweden Democrats and the party’s press office allegedly knew of the gang connection. Mattias Karlsson stated he had not communicated this information to Åkesson, emphasizing the inconsequentiality of discussing the background of a private guest. Richard Jomshof also acknowledged his awareness of the guest’s background but did not inform Åkesson.
The police have stated that connections with organized crime are problematic, particularly concerning their pursuit of political influence. Åkesson has faced scrutiny from the media and political commentators regarding this incident, with some suggesting that the party should behave more like traditional political organizations in addressing such issues. The situation continues to develop as both Åkesson and the Sweden Democrats respond to the growing criticisms.
