A woman from Kaavi, serving as an informal caretaker for her father, has been sentenced by the North Savo District Court to one year and six months of suspended imprisonment for multiple offenses. The court found her guilty of aggravated embezzlement, seven counts of fraud, one attempted fraud, and forgery. These acts occurred between 2018 and 2021.

The woman had access to her father’s online banking credentials and misappropriated €60,000 from his accounts for her own use. Her father, unable to manage his online banking, relied on her reports regarding the funds’ usage, which she withheld from him. As part of her sentence, she has been ordered to compensate her father’s estate for the amount embezzled.

Additionally, she acquired a €10,000 loan using her father’s details on the application. She also attempted to submit eleven other loan applications to the same company, requesting amounts ranging from €4,000 to €10,000. However, these applications were denied since a loan under her father’s name was already active within the same corporate group.

The woman further obtained nearly €8,000 in loans from six other credit companies in her father’s name and forged a document that authorized her to receive communications on his behalf. This document misled the court’s bailiff.

The accused admitted to all charges and compensation claims. The trial was initially set for June, but she failed to appear, resulting in a €500 penalty. The judgment is not yet final.
