Norwegian government proposes significant funding for regional development in Buskerud County
The government has proposed allocating 27 million Norwegian kroner to the Buskerud County Municipality as part of its regional development funding. These funds aim to enhance business development and support initiatives through Innovation Norway, business hubs, incubator programs under SIVA, and funding for research stimulation.
Additionally, a proposal for 22 million kroner has been made for the initiation of gyroscopic treatment in the Drammen region, primarily utilizing the chlorination method. This four-year initiative, set to run from 2025 to 2028, aims to address the significant threat of gyrobacteria to Norway’s wild salmon populations, reinforcing efforts to protect this vital species.
Cultural initiatives are seeing a proposed allocation of 4.1 million kroner to regional cultural funds.
In terms of transport projects, the E16 Eggemoen–Jevnaker–Olum route opened to traffic in 2022, with local road network work expected to conclude by 2025, facing delays from the initial timeline. Another project involves constructing an 8.4 km new four-lane road, including a 3.4 km tunnel, with traffic projected to start by autumn 2025.
The government plans to allocate an additional 480.5 million kroner for county roads in the 2025 budget, emphasizing upgrades and renewals. For railway maintenance and renewal, the proposal suggests a budget of 6.6 billion kroner for operations and an increase of 5.5 billion kroner for modernization initiatives.
In urban areas, about 97 million kroner is allocated for improving transportation in the Buskerudbyen region, including a reward agreement aimed at enhancing accessibility, the environment, and health. The overall free income for the municipal sector is set to increase by 6.8 billion kroner, acknowledging the challenging financial situation many municipalities currently face.
