Students report living conditions complaints at Umeus in Trondheim
Student complaints about living conditions at Umeus in Trondheim have surfaced, revealing a range of issues since they moved in. Charlotte Slettebakken, a student who relocated in August 2022, expressed disappointment over the deteriorating conditions in what initially appeared to be an attractive residence.
Residents have reported several problems, including malfunctioning washing machines that have damaged clothing, inadequate ventilation leading to excessively high indoor temperatures, and poor cleanliness in shared areas. Other grievances include locked doors that could not be opened for days and a lack of response from the landlord when issues are raised.
Charlotte noted that her laundry started to smell after washes, with her clothes possibly ruined due to persistent washing machine malfunctions. Despite her attempts to communicate with Umeus, she faced unresponsiveness and was left feeling that her concerns were not taken seriously.
In response, Umeus acknowledged the washing machine issues and claimed they have attempted to address them promptly. They emphasized that rental contracts comply with housing laws, allowing students to terminate their leases annually. Umeus also stated that regular cleaning occurs three times a week and ventilation systems are functioning adequately, although they admitted this summer was exceptionally warm, affecting indoor climate.
Students find the lack of maintenance alarming, feeling that Umeus has prioritization issues regarding repairs. Dilara Karadag, another tenant, echoed these sentiments, stating they often feel ignored and that complaints are met with impolite replies. Umeus expressed regret that some tenants feel neglected and reaffirmed their intention to resolve issues raised by students, insisting that they take all requests seriously.
