Council holds virtual meeting in Pieksämäki amid security concerns in South Savo
The South Savo welfare area’s council was convened in Pieksämäki on Monday at 10 AM. However, on Friday, the council leadership, in coordination with security authorities, decided to conduct the meeting remotely. The Eastern Finland police have not commented on the matter, but they confirmed that they have been contacted regarding the situation.
During this meeting, the council is set to decide on historically significant budget cuts that will have a substantial impact on social and health services in South Savo. Among the proposed measures is the discontinuation of emergency services at the Savonlinna Central Hospital.
The decision to hold the meeting virtually was motivated by security concerns related to individuals. According to Yle, threats had been directed towards one or more individuals involved. More information will follow as this story develops.
