The port operator Steveco has announced layoffs for its employees in Kotka and other locations. Recent change negotiations concluded with the decision to lay off up to 13 employees for a maximum of 90 days this year due to a decrease in work volume. Notably, there has been a reduction in goods passing through the Hamina-Kotka port, affecting both stevedores and administrative roles.

Additionally, the negotiations included the possibility of further layoffs in the early months of 2025 if the work situation does not improve. This year’s negotiations encompassed the entire workforce, which consists of approximately 800 employees. Steveco is recognized as Finland’s largest stevedoring and logistics company, operating in Helsinki’s Vuosaari, at the Hamina-Kotka port, as well as ports in the Saimaa region. The company’s main shareholders include Stora Enso, UPM-Kymmene, and Finnlines.

In previous negotiations held in June, Steveco reduced its workforce by 14 positions, with most of these reductions occurring through retirements. This marks the company’s latest instance of employee layoffs, which took place earlier this year.
