Icelandair executives dominate Iceland’s highest-paid aviation workers

Þórhallur H. Reynisson, Icelandair’s director of flight operations, was Iceland’s highest-paid aviation worker in 2025, earning just over 10.5 million Icelandic krónur a month, according to calculations published by mbl.is.
Einar Dagbjartsson, an Icelandair captain, ranked second with monthly earnings of more than 7.1 million krónur. The figures come from Frjáls verslun’s income report, which examines the earnings of 5,570 Icelanders.
Six of the 10 highest earners in the aviation category work for Icelandair, while four work for the state.
The 10 highest-paid aviation workers were:

Einar Dagbjartsson, Icelandair captain: 7.1 million krónur.
Jón Hörður Jónsson, Icelandair captain and chairman of ÖFÍA: 5.4 million krónur.
Hafsteinn Pálsson, Icelandair captain: 5.1 million krónur.
Björn Brekkan Björnsson, captain with the Icelandic Coast Guard: 4.2 million krónur.
Sigurður Heiðar S. Wiium, chief pilot with the Icelandic Coast Guard: 4.1 million krónur.
Jón Magnús Sveinsson, Icelandair captain: 4.1 million krónur.
Hjalti Guðmundsson, air traffic controller: 4 million krónur.
Linda Gunnarsdóttir, Icelandair chief pilot: 4 million krónur.
Walter Hallgrímur Ehrat, captain with the Icelandic Coast Guard: 4 million krónur.
One woman among the top 10
Only one woman appears among the 10 highest-paid workers in the category. The next-highest-paid woman was Geirþrúður Alfreðsdóttir, an Icelandair captain, who earned around 3.3 million krónur a month last year and ranked 36th among aviation workers.
