September 2024 marks a historic milestone for Vágar Airport, as it records over 40,000 passengers for the first time ever. The total number stands at 40,505, reflecting a growth of 9.9% compared to September of last year, which was slightly down from September 2019.

Up until October 1st, there has been a 3.7% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2023.

However, three foreign airlines—SAS, Icelandair, and Widerøe—will not operate flights to the Faroe Islands this winter. It appears that Icelandair is satisfied with its operations to the Faroes, which commenced in the spring. The airline has already announced plans to resume flights starting April 11 of next year, as stated by Regin I. Jakobsen, the director of Vágar Airport.
