New partridge hunting season to start October 25th in Iceland

The new partridge hunting season in Iceland will commence on October 25th, following the introduction of a revised hunting framework by the Minister of Environment, Energy, and Climate. This year, the country will be divided into six distinct hunting zones.

The Minister, Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson, has officially approved proposals from the Environmental Agency regarding this year’s hunting arrangements. Partridge hunting is permitted starting October 25th under a new management and conservation plan that the Environmental Agency released in September. The number of hunting days each year will be determined based on annual monitoring of the partridge population.

Each hunting zone will be allocated specific hunting days according to the status of local partridge populations, implementing a region-based management system aimed at preserving the partridge stock and ensuring sustainable hunting practices. Hunting will be allowed from Friday through Tuesday during the designated hunting periods.

For the current year, the distribution of hunting days across the various zones is as follows:
– West Iceland: 20 days (October 25 to November 19)
– Westfjords: 25 days (October 25 to November 26)
– Northwest Iceland: 20 days (October 25 to November 19)
– Northeast Iceland: 20 days (October 25 to November 19)
– East Iceland: 43 days (October 25 to December 22)
– South Iceland: 20 days (October 25 to November 19)

This structured approach aims to balance recreational hunting with the conservation of the partridge population in Iceland.
