The Fishermen’s Association is set to hold its chairperson elections this winter.

The deadline for nominations is noon on December 4. The new chairperson will begin a three-year term starting February 1, 2025.

According to the association’s bylaws, each district has the right to nominate a maximum of three candidates. Each candidate must have at least five nominators.

Nominators and crew members can propose candidates. Members aboard vessels that are away during the nomination period are also eligible to suggest a candidate.

A candidate will be formally recognized as a contender for the chairperson role if they receive nominations from either ten nominators or three crew members.

Ballots will be sent to the association’s auditor, who will be responsible for counting the votes.

Jan Højgaard has been the chairperson of the Fishermen’s Association since 2007. He was re-elected in 2022, competing against Mortan Berjastein for the position.
