A business owner in the Mývatn area claims to have incurred significant losses totaling millions due to a power failure in the Landsnet electrical system yesterday. The Minister of Energy stated that the incident underscores the urgent need to complete the installation of power lines. Over 100 damage reports have already been submitted, with a quarter of them coming from Mývatn.

The CEO of Landsnet acknowledged that the infrastructure is aging and the Minister emphasized that any delay in improving the electrical network could negatively impact national energy security. He remarked that all municipalities and stakeholders must collaborate to strengthen the country’s energy resilience.

The exact cause of the outage remains unclear, affecting various household appliances and heating controls. A local mayor reported significant damages claimed by a business owner, but precise figures are still uncertain. The mayor described the situation as serious, indicating that numerous businesses were affected, implying considerable economic implications for the region.

As more reports of damages are anticipated, the critical nature of modernizing the electrical infrastructure has been highlighted, sparking discussions on the urgency of timely upgrades to safeguard national interests.
